In my eighth decade I’ve seen a thing or two. Only by observation can one really gain insights. Reading instructions is good enough to put you in the ballpark but it takes direct observation and participation to bring it all home. Enough of this business and lo and behold it doesn’t take great amounts of observation of another in action to determine if they are competent. A few of my close friends are school dropouts, me included. We have been around longer than most and by the grace of Lady Luck and preparedness we will remain so. We have had to learn on the job and all of us have become successful at some or other trade. I’m working up to a point so please bear with me.
When I see another using a tool or technique it doesn’t take long to figure out that they’ve done that job multiple times. I can tell soon enough that they know what they’re doing. The air around them is settled and fluid and symphonic. It could be someone threading a sewing machine, opening a wine bottle, raising my car with a floor jack, anything of this sort. I know when I’m in the presence of competent individuals. Here is a video of a person using a broad ax hewing a tree into a beam. Notice he has all of his toes. Also notice how your body reacts to the video. I’m sure you are nervous as you watch.
To my point. I have been following the back and forth between Trump and N. Korea’s Dear Leader for a few days. Not once during a few days of operation/behavior have I felt any confidence in our dear leader’s abilities or to convince anyone that he knows what he is doing. He has us on the precipice and it is not a good feeling. I’m staying tuned because I want to see what comes of this and who will step up and correct dear leader’s behavior. Here is a link to a blog I read regularly. Josh Marshall is a good source for analytical comment.

Have a pretty day. If you have reason to travel to Guam get your business done and then get the heck out of there.

The two leaders have several personality traits in common. No doubt they understand each other. Neither is likely to give in unless a way can be made to save face.
We could be in for it.
There is something to what you say, Lynne. There are others who doubt that a similarity exists in that the cultural difference skews the western view. We are not seeing what N. Korea sees. Plus they have simply developed their nuclear weapon system as protection from us. Only natural. We have bullied them a ton over time.
