It Refines

ABLUTION:
His own Word-of-the-Day. As he performed, he thought of his age and his seeming gain on life’s attendant ignorance that living long brings. Words that came to him naturally went unusable. He did not know their meaning. As life passed, he took time, exponentially, to learn. Today’s word is “ablution”. He just performed it and he knew he did but was not fully certain. He felt almost confident. He also felt he might be wrong. He wasn’t sure how much of his morning routine was wrapped up in “ablution”. He would look it up as soon as he was through performing it. What he thought was ‘it’.

He was happy to discover that he did indeed perform it and he was happy as well that it did not mean that he’d had a bowel movement. He simply had performed his ablutions. And he was catching up with ignorance.
