VISITING FRIENDS DURING HARVEST SEASON AT BLACKFISH CREEK

Sarah in the kitchen singing,

She is prepping tomatoes for canning,

Roger rumbles through lugging a crate of veggies,

We all have been stripping plants in the garden of late produce,

Do you want tea? from Sarah.

Yes please, I reply.

I’m making black, says Sarah.

Oh, good…, from me.

Roger rumbles past – carrying a box of veggies,

He has so many to find places for,

Sit outside – the table is nice, puts in Roger

I can’t see the table…I go anyway,

Nadine is a statue – learning a lesson on-line, seated,

Nadine is an academic doing course work,

Roger is right – he passes by hauling a big container or veggies,

Nadine expands her base; her horizons spread,

I look around at piles of squash with Italian names – an elephant figurine observes,

Sarah sings in the kitchen – sweet tunes,

Nadine is stuffing her head with new ideas,

Roger grunts past with yet another huge box of veggies,

I taste like tea; I smell like mellow, Sarah smiles and sings,

Nadine flips a switch and touches a button; getting smart,

Bumble-bees are mimicking Roger,

Extra, extra, I write all about it.
